Sept. 25-29

Last we wrapped up the Language Arts Unit 1, answering the question, "Why do citizens get involved in their communities?" We discussed through literature what is means to be a good citizen and community member. We also continued to explore and experiment with sound. Through our experiments we were able to see the effects of sound waves pushing a ping pong ball and water! The scholars' shreeks of wonder were priceless.

This week brings more excitement and adventure.

Sept. 18-22

Last week was filled with learning and exploration. Some our the highlights included learning about the artist Jackson Pollock, watching some footage of him painting in his drip style, and then trying it out ourselves! It was thrilling to create a piece of artwork in his likeness. We also experimented with sound and discovered through our experimenting that sound is created by vibrations! Have your scholar share all about how they made that discovery.  This week we will continue to explore sound through observations and experiments. We are continuing to seek answers to the Essential Question in our literacy unit, "Why do people get involved in their communities?". This also ties in with our learning in Social Studies Unit 1, Citizenship. This will be a bustling, busy week of first grade!

Reminders:

  •  NO SCHOOL this Thursday.
  •  Homework will be due this Friday and the spelling test will be Friday.

Sept. 11-15

What a great way to start the week with a Patriot's Day celebration honoring America!  Thank you to all of the families that were able to join us at the assembly this morning. It was inspiring to listen to the next generation share why they were "proud to be Americans."
